Canada’s Premiere Creative Night Out Celebrates Four Years of Mixing Beats + Making Stuff

This February and March, Spins & Needles Craft + DJ Night travels to three of Canada’s largest cities - Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa - to host all-out interactive art and music parties that will blend art, craft, technology and project-making alongside DJs spinning funky sounds.

At each event, creative types will gather to work on several DIY (do-it-yourself) projects, from painting Pop Art Self-Portraits to building Robot Light Creatures to crafting Plastic Shrink Pendants. Getting messy and creative is key. All materials and instructions will be provided.

Participants will also be invited to hit the dance floor while DJ Jason Pelletier and local guest DJs spin a plethora of beats from disco to old school funk to deep Chicago house, creating a distinctive atmosphere and underground aesthetic common to Spins & Needles happenings.

Events will take place in a variety of spaces. Spins & Needles four-year anniversary tour will include these stops:
*Thursday February 12th, 7:00 - 11:00 p.m., National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa
*Sunday February 15th, 9:00 p.m. onwards., Le Divan Orange, Montreal
*Saturday March 14th, 9:00 p.m. onwards, Dovercourt House, Toronto

Spins & Needles Craft + DJ Night is a traveling creative night out that mixes art, craft, music and culture in public spaces. For a small cover, creative types and nightlife-ers gather in bars, galleries and other venues to make a featured art/craft project while listening to DJs spin funky beats. The first established initiative of its kind in Canada, it was founded in 2005 in Ottawa by crafter/designer Melanie Yugo and DJ Jason Pelletier, and has since traveled to other cities across Canada, the U.S., and Europe.
