This one week show will feature one-of-a-kind silkscreened items from local designers, bands, and businesses from Canada’s capital city, plus other out-of-town artists (many who are Silkscreening 101 Workshop alumni). You’ll find a range of work including posters, paper goods, artwork, and clothing for purchase.

The opening night party is on March 2 with silkscreened items up for sale, DJs spinning funky beats, cash bar and a hands-on silkscreening station.

Participants’ pieces will be showcased, gallery-style, at one of Ottawa’s most popular up-and-coming galleries, Falldown Gallery, in downtown Ottawa.

Work can be anything silkscreened from posters to paper goods to artwork to clothing.

The vernissage and open studio time will also give you a chance to meet and hang out with  fellow silkscreeners and creative types.

How do I participate?

Confirm your participation by filling in the form below. If you confirm your participation by February 10, you’ll also get your name on the flyer.

Is the show juried?

As of now, all submissions are being accepted – we want to make the show as inclusive as possible. But if we find there are a lot of submissions, all works from past Silkscreening 101 Workshop participants get first priority.

What kind of work can I submit?

You’re welcome to submit everything from posters to paper goods to artwork to clothing.

If I’m a past Silkscreening 101 Workshop participant, can I submit a piece using the screen I made at the workshop?

Yes of course!

Will my work be for sale?

Yes . You’ll keep 70% of the sales towards your work, and 30% will go to vernissage and show costs.

Where do I drop off my work?

You can drop off your work, ready to be hung, at Falldown Gallery (288 Bank St. @ Somerset St. W., Ottawa) from February 24-29, 2012. If you live out of town, we can make arrangements – give us a shout at at spinsandneedles at gmail.com.

My silkscreening skills are a bit rusty/I don’t have a lot of time or space to prepare a screen but I want to participate…

There’s three ways to get going again:

1) GET A NEW SCREEN MADE
Send us your image and we can create your screen for you with your image burned for $70. Turnaround time is 3-5 days. Images limited to area of 8×10. Bring it to the open studio workshop or print at home.

2) OPEN STUDIO TIME
We’re offering open studio time. Bring materials and ink to make your own screen and print OR we can create your screen in advance and you’ll be able to print at open studio.

Are there other ways I can get involved?

Yes! We are on the lookout for an Assistant Show Coordinator (honourarium provided) and Volunteer Open Studio and Vernissage Assistants. If you’re interested send us an e-mail at spinsandneedles at gmail.com.

The Assistant Show Coordinator will assist with:

• Organizing and corresponding with local and out-of-town show participants
• Curating show submissions
• Media relations
• Blog posting and social media
• Vernissage organization

This position will be for approximately one month, from February 1 – March 8, 2012. Honourarium and silkscreening perks provided.

Volunteer Open Studio and Vernissage Assistants
Open studio volunteers will be stationed at silkscreening areas at the open studio and vernissage to help participants:

• Prepare and burn screens
• Print on and dry items
