Recognized as a leader in print, silkscreening and graphic art in Ottawa and beyond, Spins & Needles hosts introductory and intermediate graphic art classes and silkscreening workshops and specializes in small series print runs for artists.  We also host customized group workshops as well as live silkscreening at events with our mobile print studio.

SILKSCREENING WORKSHOPS

Since 2006, participants have learned the process and possibilities of silkscreening (aka screenprinting) in our Silkscreening 101 Introductory Workshop as well as more advanced techniques in our Silkscreening 201 Introductory x Intermediate Workshop. We also supply selected materials such as mesh, squeegees, blank screens (wooden frames) and exposed screens with images of your choice to artists, designers and other creatives.

SILKSCREENING 101 : INTRODUCTORY LEVEL

Our Silkscreening 101 Workshop teaches participants at all creative levels the process and possibilities for silkscreening at home or in a studio.  Workshops are one day and last about 4 hours.

Alumni have created handmade gifts, printed merchandise for their own independent businesses or groups, gone on to start their own businesses based on silkscreened products, have their work featured in art shows, or silkscreen for fun. No prior experience is needed. Spaces are limited per workshop (up to 4 participants) to ensure you personally get the technique right.

Spins & Needles Silkscreening 201 Workshop

SILKSCREENING 201 : INTRODUCTORY X INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

This Silkscreening 201 workshop is a combination of our Silkscreening 101 workshop and building up to more advanced techniques. Workshops are two days and last 4 hours each day.

Participants will prepare their screens and first layers in Silkscreening 101, then focus on more advanced techniques in Silkscreening 201. You'll come away understanding how to create both single-coloured prints on paper, t-shirts, fabric or other materials as well as multi-coloured (up to 3 colours) art editions on paper. No prior experience is needed. Spaces are limited per workshop (2-4 participants) to ensure you personally get the technique right.

SILKSCREENING MICRO STUDIO*

*Please note our micro studio is currently not available at the moment for rentals.

Our micro silkscreening studio is occasionally available for use for silkscreening workshop alumni and other experienced silkscreeners.

Housed in our physical outpost, Possible Worlds, our micro silkscreening studio features the ability to silkscreen on paper or fabric using stencil or photo techniques. We can also make screens for a project you are working on outside of the studio.

MOBILE PRINT STUDIO


Want a more customized silkscreening experience? With our special portable equipment, we organize workshops and live screen printing events that can adapt to any space. We host activities from parties to team-building exercises to classroom sessions to live printing at museums, galleries and festivals. Get in touch with us and we can develop a workshop based on what you'd like to learn. We provide instruction and all the materials necessary.

SILKSCREENING MATERIALS AND SERVICES PRICES

Spins & Needles can provide these for you with a quick turnaround time (approximately 3-5 days) so you can get printing right away,

Materials and services are for image areas that measure 8”x 10”, ideal for printing on t-shirts and smaller posters.

Send us an image and we will create a new screen ready for you to print. Or pick up a new blank screen to make sure you’re ready for when inspiration strikes. 

We also provide silkscreening mesh (110 or 156 count, depending on availability) for past Silkscreening 101 and 201 workshop participants, artists, designers and other creatives to re-purpose your screens. Please note we do not provide mesh to commercial presses).
