Spins & Needles is getting you ready for this summer: pack your bags because we’re taking you around the world at the June installment in Ottawa with a travel-themed party!
When: Friday June 19th @ 8:00p.m. onwards
Where: Montgomery Legion Hall (330 Kent St. @ Somerset St. W.)
Cover: $6 - includes access to all materials and instructions.DJs: DJs Jason Pelletier + guests will hit the decks throughout the night spinning some jackin' house, funk, disco, techno and other assorted beats.
Projects: Our theme of the night is Around the World! Work on travel-themed projects including luggage tags, travel pouches, passport holders and more! Materials + instructions provided.

In a few hours, learn how to transfer any detailed image onto t-shirts, paper, canvas + more! Then screen print to your heart's content and come out with lots of new and wonderful printed items (and we mean *lots*!)

RECENT PAST EVENTS
random act of craftiness - sunday may 31: session 2 -tie-dying
Random Acts of Craftiness is the new mini-workshop series in Ottawa that spins & needles is launching this year. These are all ages, ad hoc creative sessions for 2-3 hours on Sunday afternoons at a local cafe or creative space. Each session will feature a really easy project for those spontaneous creative types and/or their families itching to get their craft on. Watch for it - these all ages sessions will pop up every few months or so.
The second RAC is Sunday May 31 and wil focus on learning the techinques of tie-dying.
What: Random Act of Craftiness: Session 2
When: Sunday May 31st, 2:00-5:00 p.m.
Where: Hartman's Community Cooking Centre (296 Bank St. @ Somerset St. W.)

Bring one white cotton piece of clothing (e.g. t-shirt, onesie) and come away with a new creation. All other tools and materials provided. Materials fee: $10; children 12 and under: $5.

A night of DJs mixing beats + creative types making stuff hits up Toronto again and takes over the hall of Dovercourt House.
When: Saturday May 2nd @ 9:00p.m. onwards
Where: Dovercourt House (805 Dovercourt Rd., 1 block N of Bloor St. )
Cover: $8, include all materials + instructions. 19+DJs: DJ Jason Pelletier + special guests will hit the decks throughout the night spinning some jackin' house, funk, disco, techno and other assorted funky beats.
Projects: Build your own DIORAMAS! Remember the settings in shoeboxes you decorated in grade school? Recreate a place you visited, a jungle habitat, a mini art gallery, your bedroom, a scene from Star Wars, anything else you can think of. Plus other crafty goodness. Need a new but inexpensive fabulous wardrobe? Spring cleaning out your closets? Want to consume clothing in a fun and sustainable way?
In collaboration with local crafters/designers + local businesses, and inspired by swapping movements happening around the globe, spins & needles presents a swap-licious special installment: it's Ottawa's first Clothing Remix + Remake Party!
The night will feature a huge clothing swap, DIY sewing/printing/decoration stations and mini-workshops on clothing alteration, music by DJs Jason Pelletier + guests, a fashion show from local clothing store Victoire, bundt cakes and baked goods by Les Aliments Morsel Foods, and much more!
Remaining clothing to be donated to a local Ottawa charity.

To Participate
No need to buy tickets/register in advance. Just show up at the door with a bag of gently used, clean clothing. (For those who show up with no clothes to swap, you'll be charged an additional $5 + cover). See our Tips for Swapping. (Want to get involved? Alteration Stations: DIY Handsewing + Printing + Decoration Stations
After swapping, remake your new duds at DIY alteration stations, ranging from adding embellishments to prints to other fun things.
Mini-Workshops
Mini-workshops will be offered by local designers and crafters Laura Twiss, Robyn Paton and Melanie Yugo on how to reconstruct and modify clothing items.
Sewing Machine Pods sponsored by Singer Sewing Machines
After swapping, remake your new duds using a sewing machine. Local designers and crafters, including Laura Twiss, Robyn Paton, Karina Bergmans, Ashley Parsons, Catherine Sinclair and Melanie Yugo will be on hand to to help.
Mini-Fashion Show by Victoire
Local boutique Victoire will present a mini-fashion show, re-mixing vintage and new pieces from collections in their store down the runway.
Baked Goods by Les Aliments Morsel Foods
Local baker Les Aliments Morsel Foods will have Bundt cakes - Spins & Needles current cake of choice! - and other sugary sweets on sale.
Tips For Swapping:
> Items should be in good condition. No holes, no rips, and clean.
> Play nice. Take only what you need.
> Accessories: It's OK to bring shoes, purses, belts, hats and scarves. But no undergarments and no jewellery (we're organizing another swap-a-licious jewellery swap in the next couple of months!)
We're also looking for volunteers for this event!
